Nov 01, 2019 Sergey Kovalev defends his WBO Light Heavyweight Title against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on November 2 at the MGM in Las Vegas. For Canelo, this is a chance to win a belt at 175, which would be the fourth division in which he has won a title—quite a feat at this high of a weight where the divisions are more spread out.

CANELO vs KOVALEV BETTING PREVIEW

Despite great power, Alvarez has seen four of his last five bouts come via decision

The 28-year-old's only blemish on his astounding 51-1-2 overall record came back in September 2013 at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr., who won via majority decision. Since then, Canelo has recorded 10 victories and 1 draw (in the first bout against Gennady Golovkin). He claimed dominant knockout wins against British boxers Amir Khan and Liam Smith in the process. Canelo's last fight was in May as a narrow points victory against Daniel Jacobs enabled him to unify the middleweight division.
Alvarez's two best attributes, though, are the sturdiness of his chin and his ability to work the midsection. Canelo is perhaps the world's best technical boxer and a fantastic body puncher, which could be the key to this fight. The talented Mexican also is a master of defensive boxing, has excellent footwork and lightning speed. The Mexican champ has never fought at light heavyweight and is known for his dominance at 154 and 160 lbs, but the jump up two weight classes isn't deterring oddsmakers from installing him as the comfortable favorite over the Russian power-puncher despite giving up four inches in height and five centimetres of reach to his opponent.

Kovalev's best days may be behind him but he has a huge physical advantage over Canelo

Sergey Kovalev boasts a record of 34 victories, one draw and three defeats from his career. Three losses (two to Andre Ward and one to Eleider Alvarez) in the space of two years suggested a decline but he has found some decent form over the last 12 months. The Russian boxer is coming off a hard-fought win over Anthony Yarde in August in which he was very nearly stopped in the eighth round before battling back to win in the 11th. Prior to that, Kovalev gained impressive revenge over Alvarez
Kovalev has built a reputation as a fearsome puncher. His jab, particularly in his later years, has been his most prolific weapon. If he can fire it regularly and without fear, Canelo will immediately find himself being pushed back. Plus, he is a natural light heavyweight who will dwarf Alvarez on Saturday night. Anyway. it was a series of body shots that ended the second fight with Ward, and his vulnerability in that area will be exploited by the Mexican.

Canelo kovalev betting odds

Canelo Alvarez is coming off a close unanimous decision win over Daniel Jacobs in a middleweight championship unification fight on May 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Alvarez added Jacobs' IBF middleweight belt to the WBA and WBC middleweight championships that he won from Gennady Golovkin in their second fight on September 15, 2018.

Jacobs was not able to find the elusive Alvarez for long stretches and while he did come out strong in the second half, landing 131 of 649 punches, Alvarez displayed patience, poise and technique for all 12 rounds. Now Alvarez will go after a world title in a fourth division.

Sergey Kovalev, a three-time light heavyweight champion, had an 11th-round knockout against the previously unbeaten Anthony Yarde to retain the WBO light heavyweight championship in Russia on August 24. This will be Kovalev's 17th straight world title fight. Yarde had a great showing against him, earning his respect.

The British boxer recovered from a slow start and even landed strong shots in the eighth round but Kovalev's experience surfaced and he countered in the late rounds before flooring him with a big left handed.

Canelo Kovalev Bet Picks

Canelo Alvarez has never fought above super middleweight and he can join Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns and Mike McCallum as the only fighters in boxing history to win titles at 154 lbs and 175 lbs.

This is what Kovalev had to say about the fight: 'Canelo has nothing to lose in this fight. He has a chance to make history. But I have to defend my title. This is the biggest fight of my career. I've never been in this situation, where someone is coming from middleweight. I'm not going to make a prediction, but I am going to go in there and defend my title. I think Canelo will be just as strong at light heavyweight. I think he will weigh the same as me, 175 pounds. He will be heavier than usual, but I think he will be comfortable. When you lose weight for a fight, you lose power and stamina, and he won't have to do that.'

Alvarez explained his mindset and how he feels: 'I feel good! This is the weight I'm usually at during my normal life so it's natural for me. I've been eating well, lifting more weights because I normally don't lift weights when I'm losing weight. I've been eating how I normally do, of course staying healthy, but adding more rice, protein and carbohydrates. I'm entering his zone of comfort but we're ready for this. We have the intelligence and skill to beat Kovalev and win the fight. It's going to be one of the most important fights for me and my career. This title is very important, to be a four-time world champion in different divisions.'

Canelo Kovalev Betting Odds

This can be a really intriguing and entertaining fight, Kovalev has significant advantages in weight, strength, height and reach and Alvarez has to be very careful. I do think that Canelo will find a way to dominate late and get a unanimous decision.

Canelo Kovalev Bet Stream

There's a reason why Kovalev is nicknamed 'Krusher.' The Russian has heavy hands and he can let them flu against a smaller opponent like Alvarez. If Kovalev wants to win, he has to try to corner Canelo Alvarez and knock him out. As for Alvarez, he is elusive and he will likely try to stay outside and use counters to get in, hit Kovalev's body and eventually win by decision.
